Being involved with and donating to charity has always been very important to me. Every month I will be donating 10% of the site’s advertising revenue to a different charity.

This month 10% of the ad revenue generated by the D*S Shop will be donated to Art Start in New York, a program which provides art classes to homeless and underserved youth.

Art Start works with homeless kids in New York City who face the daily uncertainty and instability of living in city shelters. The program presents weekly workshops to help the children develop self-expression and raise self-esteem through the process of making art. The workshops, which are held at two to four shelters at any one time, promote collaboration, learning and discovery. A teacher-training component helps visiting volunteer artists design their workshops to be engaging and supportive in the chaotic and transient shelter environment.

Art Start connects with kids who are denied access to a nurturing education, a supportive home environment and promising work opportunities. They contend with economic brutality, racism and neglect every day. They are strong, resilient, open-minded, talented and full of dreams. Art Start uses the arts to spark their lives to the possibilities of "making it." We give them tools and opportunities, and most important, a chance to be heard.
